As extreme heat continues, take steps to remain healthy. As older adults are at greater risk for heat-related illnesses, keep the safety tips below in mind (VA.gov). 🤝🔶 Heat cramps which are muscle pain or spasms are usually the first sign that heat is hurting your body. Learn to recognize the signs of heat-related illnesses. If you notice symptoms, pause any exercise, move to a cooler place, and drink water or a sports drink. 🔶 The hottest part of the day is around 10 AM- 4 PM. Try to remain indoors during this time. 🔶 If you feel hot and are unable to move to a cooler area, use wet cloths to cool off. 🔶 If indoor temperatures are above 90 degrees, fans will not be able to provide enough cooling. If your home is too hot, it's necessary to seek a cooled or air-conditioned location such as a library, mall, friend's home, or designated cooling center.🔶 Power outages can occur during extreme heat. Make sure to talk to your provider about a power outage plan if you use electrically powered medical equipment or refrigerated med#HeatHealthH#EmergencyPreparednesse#HeatPreparednesse#olderadultspreparednesse#district2publichealthblicHealth ... As we enter the long weekend, have fun with these tips in mind! 😎🔶 It's best to leave fireworks to the professionals. Never let young children handle fireworks or sprinklers. Older children must be supervised closely by an adult. 🔶 Use a grill outside only and keep a 3-foot safety distance around it, away from deck rails, siding, etc. Make sure to open your gas grill before lighting it. If using a charcoal grill, after cooking, remember to place the coals and ash in a metal can with a lid once they have cooled. 🔶 Be aware of the signs of heat illnesses. Call 911 if someone has signs of heatstroke such as: dizziness, nausea, fatigue, confusion. 🔗 To learn more about heat-related illnesses, visit: www.cdc.gov/niosh/heat-stress/about/illnesses.h#EmergencyPreparednessd#SummerPreparednessd#HeatPreparednessdness ...
