🔌 Did you know that power outages can happen during winter storms? ❄Winter storms are a "combination of heavy snow, blowing snow and/or dangerous wind chills" (NOAA). ⛄ During these conditions, trees and power lines heavy with snow or ice may snap or fall. This could affect utilities, transportation, stores, gas stations, ATMs, and electrically powered medical devices. Here are simple steps to prepare for winter storm power outages:1️⃣ Remember to always use a generator outside, at least 20 feet away from your home and windows.2️⃣ Have a backup plan for refrigerating medicines or charging medical devices.During a power outage, unplug appliances and electronics to prevent harm from electrical surges.3️⃣ During a power outage, unplug appliances and electronics to protect them from electrical surges.4️⃣ During a power outage, food will be safe for up to 4 hours in a refrigerator, 24 hours in a half-full freezer, and 48 hours in a full freezer (CDC). If the food has an unusual smell, color, or texture, stay safe and throw it out. 5️⃣ If the cold becomes extreme and you're not able to heat your home, go to a community location with power. #emergencypreparedness #poweroutage #winterweather #WinterReady #district2publichealth ...
