At this time PFIZER is the only vaccine fully authorized to be given as a booster.

Approval and distribution of vaccines for public health follows 3 major steps:

  1. FDA approval- By October 15th, the FDA approved emergency usage for a booster dose of Moderna and Janssen vaccines for adults who are high risk of covid infection.
  2. CDC/ACIP (Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) approval- ACIP meets October 20th and 21st to review data and recommendations and approval or denial decision will be made.
  3. Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) implementation– DPH sets policy and clinical guidelines and sends information out to vaccination clinics throughout the state. Once this is received, all DPH clinics will begin vaccination efforts – dependent on vaccine availability.

(Some pharmacies may begin vaccinating before the Health Departments)

As of 10/18/2021, the first step is complete and we are waiting for step 2.  We understand the importance of relaying updates regarding booster vaccines promptly.  Please check back often for updates as information will be posted when boosters are officially available.
