Eclipse Info

Banks, Rabun, Stephens and Towns County Health Departments will be closed Monday, August 21 in anticipation of large numbers of visitors in the area to observe the eclipse. Union County Health Department will close at 11:00 am. All remaining District 2 Public Health Departments and District Office will close at noon on Monday. If you plan to visit one of our health departments on Monday, you may call first in case their schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances. You can find information for all health departments at www.phdistrict2.org

Public safety officials predict roadways will be congested with the increased traffic, so be careful when driving and allow extra time to reach your destination. We hope that all residents and visitors in our 13-county area safely enjoy viewing the total eclipse.

Here are some safety reminders:

  • Never look directly at the sun without an appropriate filter to protect your eyes.
  • Only view the eclipse through “eclipse approved solar filters” (ISO 12312-12) eye protection.
  • Use appropriate filters on cameras and telescopes to protect your eyes.
  • Supervise children using solar filters.
